Ben Canny PhD

Professor Ben Canny is the University of Tasmania's new Head of Medicine. Professor Canny joined the University in January after 24 years at Monash University, where he had been Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Science, with responsibility for Medical Education, and President of the Academic Board. Professor Canny completed his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at the University of Adelaide and his Ph.D. at Monash.

Ben Canny is now responsible for the University of Tasmania's School of Medicine, which includes staff and students of Medicine, Pharmacy, Psychology and Paramedicine, and Health Service Innovation in Tasmania. The School of Medicine makes up half of the University of Tasmania's Faculty of Health, which has more than 10,000 students. Professor Canny said he was looking forward to his involvement with the changing Tasmanian health system and ensuring the training of health professionals (including doctors, ambulance paramedics, pharmacists, and psychologists) is aligned to the needs of the community.
