Begona Martinez de Tejada obtained a doctorate of medicine at the University of Barcelona in 1990, completed a specialization in obstetrics and gynecology in 1995. From 1995 to 1997, she spent a postdoctoral fellowship in infectious diseases and immunology in Pittsburgh to the States United States, then obtained a PhD in Medicine and Biology in Barcelona in 2001. Having arrived in Geneva in 2001, she joined the HUG and continued her research in obstetrics, particularly on the prevention of premature labor and its infectious complications.
She is also involved in pre-graduate, postgraduate and continuing education with medical students, physicians and midwives. In 2012, she was appointed privat-docent of the Faculty of Medicine and associate assistant professor at the HUG, where she took the helm of the high-risk obstetric unit. Promoted to Assistant Professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics in 2015, she was appointed Full Professor and Head of the Obstetrics Department in October 2017.
