Dr. Basil joined Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital as a Paediatric Rheumatology Consultant with more than 10 years of experience. He graduated from Damascus University School of Medicine in 1995 and completed his Paediatric Residency at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, USA (1996 – 2000). Thereafter, he completed the Paediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program at the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts University, New England Medical Center in Boston, USA . Basil is American Board Certified in Paediatrics and Paediatric Rheumatology and continues to fulfill the requirements of the American Board for maintenance of certifications.He has extensive experience and has worked in international centres, including St. Christopher Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit, and chaired the Section of Paediatric Rheumatology at Hamad General Hospital in Qatar. He had an academic position of assistant professor of clinical paediatrics at Drexel University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, and Weill Medical College of Cornell University, Qatar. Basil has special interest in auto-inflammatory disorders, Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis, and autoimmune connective tissue diseases. He has published in peer-reviewed journals and has special interest in medical education and clinical research.
