Dr. Barry Solomon is a Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is Chief of the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and Assistant Dean for Medical Student Affairs.

A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he completed a residency at the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and a fellowship in general academic pediatrics at Johns Hopkins. He holds an M.P.H. from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

Dr. Solomon’s clinical work, research, teaching and advocacy efforts relate to addressing the social and behavioral health needs of urban youth and caregivers through educational curricula and clinic-based interventions. For many years he worked closely with colleagues in the Women and Children’s Health Policy Center in the Bloomberg School of Public Health on the Dyson Community Pediatrics Training Initiative National Evaluation, a longitudinal study assessing the impact of integrating community-based experiences and child advocacy skills into residency training.

Dr. Solomon holds a joint appointment in the Department of Health, Behavior, and Society in the Bloomberg School of Public Health where he conducts research with faculty in the Center for Injury Research & Policy to reduce and prevent childhood injury. He was Co-PI on the recently completed NICHD funded Safe Start study, a randomized trial to evaluate the impact of a safe sleep intervention on mothers’ knowledge, beliefs, intentions, skills and practices related to creating and maintaining a safe sleep environment for their infants.
