Professor Barry Jacobson is currently Head of Clinical Haematology in the Department of Haematology, NHLS, Johannesburg Hospital, and Head of Surgical Research at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg Hospital while also lecturing 3rd-year medical students in the physiology of Aviation Medicine. He completed his six-year medical training course at the University of Pretoria, graduating as one of the top five students in a class of 180 students.

Appointed Honorary Medical Chairman-Johannesburg Jewish Helping Hand. Responsible for ensuring a competent and efficient supply of health services to Sandringham Gardens – a 300-bed hospital. Established hospital as University of the Witwatersrand Geriatric Training Facility to enable medical students to rotate at the facility during Community Health block. Involved in establishing the Southern African Society of Thrombosis and Haemostasis and elected first President. Chairman of Committee to establish South Africa Guidelines for Thrombo-Embolic Prophylaxis
