After graduating from Charles University in Prague, Barbora Parizkova undertook her higher specialist training in Anaesthesia and Intensive care. Following her experience as a senior fellow in two of the premier cardiothoracic centres in the UK – Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital and Papworth Hospital, she decided to pursue a career in Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia and Intensive Care. She was appointed as a Locum consultant in Papworth Hospital in August 2009 and got a substantive post in July 2011. Apart from her normal day to day work at Papworth Hospital Barbora is a vital member of the multidisciplinary team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital NHS Trust, Cambridge which provides care to high risk parturient women with cardiac disease.

Barbora also volunteered for the charitable organisation, Chain of Hope, set up by Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub. During this charity work she has anaesthetised and provided post-operative care for a range of largely paediatric patients with congenital heart disease. From her wide-ranging exposure (charitable missions to Ethiopia, Mozambique, Egypt..), she has gained a lot of experience in taking professional, clinical teams into developing countries and has played a major role in the professional development and training of local health care professionals.
