Barbara Kelly Changizi, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Neurology at the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. She is a board-certified neurologist and fellowship-trained in movement disorders. Dr. Changizi cares for patients in the Movement Disorders Division of the Department of Neurology, where she treats a variety of movement disorders including Parkinson's disease, Parkinsonian syndromes, tremors (including essential tremors, multiple sclerosis tremor), dystonia, ataxia, and Tourette syndrome. She is an expert in botulinum toxin administration for dystonia, tremor, tics, and hemifacial spasm. She also has an interest in normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and evaluates patients for curative surgical treatment of ventriculoperitoneal shunts.
Dr. Changizi is an expert in deep brain stimulation (DBS) for movement disorders and has a joint position in the OSU Center for Neuromodulation, where she works with neurosurgeons Drs. Ali Rezai and Milind Deogaonkar. Dr. Changizi evaluates patient candidacy for DBS, optimizes their medical management prior to surgery, and programs the devices after the leads are implanted. Her philosophy is to educate patients throughout their DBS candidacy, so as to make the process of surgery and maintenance of their implant as comfortable and optimal as possible. Dr. Changizi also educates movement disorder fellows and neurology residents. She participates in her own research on DBS, as well as acts as a co-investigator in national multi-center studies.
