Barbara J. Nicklas PhD

Dr. Nicklas is Professor of Internal Medicine in the Section on Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine at Wake Forest School of Medicine and serves as Deputy Director of the J Paul Sticht Center on Aging. She has a cross-appointment in the Department of Health and Exercise Science at Wake Forest University. Dr. Nicklas is trained as an exercise physiologist and has devoted her career to conducting research in the fields of aging, obesity, and physical activity. She has experience leading both diet and exercise clinical trials, primarily in older adults, with an emphasis on studying physiologic and metabolic health outcomes. Dr. Nicklas' research has been supported by grants from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association, and the Veterans Administration.
