Prof. Dr. Barbara Bohle was born in Dornbirn, Austria. She started her work in allergy research as biomedical assistant in the group of Prof. Dr. Dieter Kraft. From 1992-1997 she studied "Food- and Biotechnology" at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna. In 2000 she finished her PhD and in 2002 she obtained the venia docendi in Immunology. Thereafter, she became the head of the research group “Allergy Research” at the Institute of Pathophysiology. In May 2010 she was appointed full professor for Cellular Allergology at the Medical University of Vienna.

Barbara Bohle is the author of more than 90 original articles in highly ranked scientific journals, several review articles and book chapters. Currently she is the principal investigator and head of the “Allergy research” team and the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Immunomodulation at the Institute of Pathophysiology and Allergy Research. She has extended experience in academic teaching and congress organization. She has been awarded with the Austrian Novartis Prize in Biology and with prestigious international prizes in allergy research, namely the award of the Pharmacia Allergy Research Foundation (PhARF) and of the World Allergy Organization (WAO). Barbara Bohle is scientific board member of the Paul-Ehrlich Institute and managing editor of the journal “International Archives of Allergy and Immunology”.
