Dr. Balvinder Rana is working as Additional Director, Orthopaedics and is head of the Foot and Ankle and trauma unit in Fortis Bone and Joint Institute at Fortis Hospital Gurgaon and Fortis, Escorts New Delhi. He has 20 years of experience in Orthopaedics and specialises in treating problems of the foot and ankle. He did his postgraduate training in Orthopaedics from Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Maharashtra and completed orthopaedic residency from Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, New Delhi in 2001. He later did fellowships in Foot and Ankle surgery at centres of excellence in the US including Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Centre, Columbus, Ohio and Birmingham University Hospital, Alabama.

He has also undergone a travelling Fellowship to the US with the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) and has been a member of the Educational Committee of AOFAS apart from being a permanent international member of AOFAS. He is a past president of the Indian Foot and Ankle Society and has organized a number of international, national & regional foot and ankle meetings in India and has also been invited as faculty to several Foot and Ankle CMEs and workshops in India and abroad. He has worked to establish the first overseas Principles course in Foot and Ankle Surgery with the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society which was conducted in Gurgaon and Delhi in June 2017. He was invited to teach at the “Principles of Foot and Ankle Surgery” organised by the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society at Bristol, UK in October, 2017. He has been in the forefront for developing the sub specialty of Foot and Ankle surgery in India and is committed to doing a number of research projects in the field of Foot and Ankle diseases.

Dr. Rana is an expert in various disorders of the Foot and Ankle and complex Orthopaedic trauma. He specializes in ankle and foot arthroscopy, ankle ligament reconstruction, problems of cartilage injuries/damage in ankle and foot, ankle and foot deformity correction, Bunion and claw/hammer toe surgery, management of heel pain and tendon problems in foot and ankle, flat foot reconstruction surgery, arthritis of foot and ankle, neuromuscular disorders of foot and ankle (such as post polio deformities and Charcot Marie Tooth deformities), complex trauma to foot and ankle (such as ankle fractures and dislocations, talus and Calcaneus bone fractures, mid foot fracture dislocations, old mal united foot and ankle fractures) and management of diabetic and Charcot’s foot.
