Baljit Cheema MBMB, BSc, MRCPCH, DTM-H, MPHIL

Baljit trained in the UK as a Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) specialist (via Paediatrics). She has been a PEM specialist since 2004 and has worked in 8 large, teaching hospital PEM units in 6 countries. Her passion is improving emergency care of children in low & middle-income countries. To this end, she has been working in Africa since 2005: initially in Blantyre, Malawi, and subsequently in Cape Town, S Africa.

Baljit’s special interests in PEM include pre-hospital transport of critically ill newborns and children, non-invasive ventilation, triage, resuscitation, and improvement science. Outside work Baljit is passionate about dancing Flamenco, creative writing, and spending time at her peaceful mountain cabin on the stunning Bains Kloof Pass 90minutes out of Cape Town.
