Nirmal Kumar graduated in 1987 from University of Madras with a gold medal in early ENT training before postgraduate training in the West Midlands, UK. Completed an M.Phil research degree at Keele University and was the JLO Travelling Fellow to Zurich and Netherlands prior to appointment as ENT consultant at Wrightington, Wigan & Leigh NHS Trust in 1999. Published over 60 peer reviewed publications in medical journals and maintains an active research interest.
Regionally, his current additional responsibilities include NW Training Programme Director for ENT and Clinical Director for R&D. He is also Honorary Professor at Edge Hill University where he leads a MCh degree in Otolaryngology. Nationally, for ENT UK he was lead for the CPD sub-group in the Education and Training Committee between 2008 and 2011. In his spare time he enjoys playing tennis with his family and friends but his aspirations in the sport far outweigh his competence.
