Aznida Firzah obtained her basic medical degree from the Universiti of Malaya in 1992 and worked as a Medical Officer at the Paediatric Institute and Skin Clinic at Hospital Kuala Lumpur before going on to complete a Master of Medicine (Family Medicine) in 2003. In 2015, she obtained her Ph.D. in Public Health from a joint program between United Nations University- International Institute for Global Health and UKM.

She has been an academic for the last sixteen years in the Department of Family Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, UKM, and served as Head of Dept from 2015-2017. Combining basic principles of family medicine, and driven by a passion to help primary care physicians to provide optimal longer-term stroke care, she used her experience at Klinik Lanjutan Strok to develop an integrated care pathway for managing post-stroke patients residing at home in the community (iCaPPS©). The main objective of this tool is to empower primary care physicians and Family Medicine Specialists to coordinate care for stroke patients and their caregivers from underserved areas where access to Specialist Stroke care services was limited. During her Phd studies, she was exposed to health economics and applied it to provide economic evidence to support change in healthcare policies.

Her research interests include clinical outcomes as well as economic evaluation of healthcare services, particularly cost-effectiveness analysis. Her current research projects include the impact of health applications on stroke risk reduction, satisfaction with outpatient stroke care services, oral health impact on systemic disease, and reducing premature coronary artery disease by early identification of familial hypercholesterolemia.
