Dr Hanyaloglu’s research focuses on the biochemical, cellular and molecular mechanisms regulating G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signalling in diverse systems. She was the first to demonstrate that hetero-dimerisation/oligomerisation of GPCRs can result in changes with the association of adaptor proteins critical for both GPCR internalization and signal desensitization in vitro, that homodimerization of a Class A GPCR is essential for signalling in vivo and that super-resolution imaging of GPCR homo and hetero-oligomers reveals these complexes can modulate signal strength.

Her work has uncovered an unprecedented system for spatial programming of receptor signalling via novel membrane trafficking pathways that illustrates the dynamic necessity of GPCR signalling, how signal specificity could be achieved in diverse physiological systems and in the cellular action of clinically relevant drugs to these GPCRs.
