Axel S. Merseburger MD, PhD

Univ.-Prof. dr medical Axel S. Merseburger studied human medicine in Hanover with a one-year research year abroad in the USA (Bethesda, Maryland). He completed his specialist training at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen. Since 2015 he has been the director of the Urology Clinic on the Lubeck campus of the Schleswig-Holstein University Hospital. As a member of the Oncology Working Group (AKO), his clinical and scientific focus is urological oncology, specifical surgery for tumors of the bladder, kidneys, and prostate carcinoma, as well as recurrence and metastasis surgery. He is co-author of the European guideline for renal cell carcinoma and is an organ group spokesman for bladder carcinoma of the board of the Urological Oncology Working Group (AUO der DKG). He is the author and co-author of over 200 publications, books, and book chapters and a member of numerous professional societies, committees, and editorial boards of professional journals. In the context of clinical studies, he is PI of multiple phase II and III studies and LKP for phase III studies in the bladder, kidney, and prostate cancer.
