Augusto Rojas-martinez MD, DSc

Augusto Rojas Martínez is a physician-scientist, molecular biologist, and genetics researcher affiliated with the Tecnológico de Monterrey, where he serves as a core researcher at the Institute for Obesity Research and Experimental Medicine and Advanced Therapies. His work focuses on human genetics, molecular biology, genomic medicine, and the interaction between genes, environment, and lifestyle in complex diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, schizophrenia, cancer, and COVID-19.

Originally trained in medicine at El Bosque University, Rojas Martínez later earned a Master’s degree in Human Genetics from Universidad de Guadalajara and a Doctorate in Sciences with a specialty in Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering from Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León.

Over the course of his career, he has contributed extensively to genomic and translational medicine research, authoring numerous high-impact scientific publications in journals including Nature, eLife, Nature Communications, and Human Molecular Genetics. His studies have advanced understanding of COVID-19 genetics, inherited retinal diseases, pharmacogenomics, breast cancer, indigenous population genomics, and precision medicine in Latin America.

Recognized as a Level 3 Mexican Researcher, Augusto Rojas Martínez is also dedicated to mentoring future scientists through teaching in genetics, cell biology, pathophysiology, and biomedical research. His work bridges clinical medicine and advanced genomic science, contributing to the development of personalized and preventive healthcare approaches in Mexico and beyond.
