Dr. Atsushi Natsume, M.D., Ph.D. is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Nagoya University, Nagoya, Japan. He graduated from Nagoya University School of Medicine in 1995 with a MD degree. His PhD thesis research was carried out at Nagoya University and Aichi Cancer Center Research Institute in the cancer immune gene therapy research group of Professors Jun Yoshida and Toshitada Takahashi from 1997-1999. After he received a PhD degree, her performed postdoctoral research in the Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry research group of Professors Joseph Glorioso and David Fink at University of Pittsburgh, USA from 1999-2002. From 2003, Dr. Natsume was a member of academic staff in the Department of Neurosurgery, Nagoya University and became an Associate Professor in 2007. The Natsume’s brain tumor research team has consistently focused on multidisciplinary, problem-driven research aimed at elucidating the mechanism of malignant brain tumor evolution, creating next generation therapeutic and diagnostic approaches. His team publishes approximately highly impacting 10 papers per year, and is now rapidly approaching the publication of 200 papers, book chapters and alike. Dr. Natsume is a board member of Japanese Congress of Neurological Surgeons, Japan Society of Brain Tumor Pathology and Japan Society of Gene Therapy. In his carrier, Dr. Natsume has received several awards from American Association of Cancer Research, Japan Neurosurgical Society, and Japan Society of Brain Tumor Pathology.
