Athina T. Giovanis DO

Athina Giovanis, D.O. is a General Practitioner and Board Certified in Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine and Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine. Dr. Giovanis graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a degree in Microbiology. She then went on to work as a research scientist before entering the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine where she earned her Doctor of Osteopathy degree.

Dr. Giovanis completed her internship at Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine. She then completed the Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine / Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine Residency at St. Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, New York, a program known for its rigorous training in Osteopathic Medicine for newborns, children, and adults. As a medical resident, she worked alongside other physicians throughout the hospital with a variety of patients, including patients in the ICU, stroke patients, trauma and surgical patients. There was daily hospital work with newborns, including NICU babies, and children admitted to the hospital. With gentle and very specific hand contact, osteopathic physicians, like Dr. Giovanis, helped patients heal by addressing the structure and function relationships in their bodies.
