Athimalaipet V. Ramanan, FRCPCH, FRCP, is a Consultant Paediatric Rheumatologist at Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath, UK. Prof.Ramanan has published more than 90 papers in peer reviewed journals and authored chapters in textbooks. He is Associate Editor for the Archives of Diseases in Childhood and in the Editorial Board of Rheumatology. He is the Associate Director of UK's only Paediatric Experimental Arthritis Treatment Centre.

Prof. Ramanan’s major research interests include biologics for uveitis in children, genetic aspects of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and macrophage activation syndrome (MAS). He recently led as Chief Investigator the Sycamore trial and published and lead/corresponding author the results in NEJM. This Study will influence the management of children with uveitis across the world. He has more than £5 million in grants and is Chief Investigator of several trials of novel biologicals in children with arthritis/uveitis. Prof. Ramanan has published more than 120 papers in peer reviewed journals and authored several chapters in textbooks in Oxford Textbook of Rheumatology. He has also guest edited special issues of journals on Paediatric Rheumatology Management Prof. Ramanan is the Co-Chair of NIHR CRN/ARUK Paediatric Rheumatology Clinical Studies Group. In this role he has helped mentor several individuals to lead on trials in children across UK. He is also the Joint Lead of Research for the Division of Women's and Children's at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust.
