Dr. Athanasios Saratzis, MBBS, MRCS, FHEA, FRCS, PhD an academic vascular surgeon with an interest in clinical and translational research. At the same time, IAthanasios Saratzis ave a clinical interest in peripheral revascularisation with a focus on complex endovascular and hybrid procedures.

Athanasios Saratzis received a prestigious NIHR Advanced Fellowship in 2019 in order to conduct research relating to cardiovascular risk management of individuals with aortic aneurysms. Athanasios Saratzis research has been funded by the NIHR, Academy of Medical Sciences, British Heart Foundation, and Royal College of Surgeons. Having established international collaborations to investigate renal injury in vascular/endovascular surgery, Athanasios Saratzis was awarded a Hunterian Professorship by the Royal College of Surgeons in 2020 on the subject of renal dysfunction in vascular patients. Athanasios Saratzis previously led the Vascular and Endovascular Research Network (VERN), establishing it as a leading clinical research delivery network in the UK and abroad.

Athanasios Saratzis currently based in the NIHR Leicester Biomedical Research Centre and Department of Cardiovascular Sciences (University of Leicester) as Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery and Honorary Consultant Vascular Surgeon. Prior to Athanasios Saratzis current academic appointment, Athanasios Saratzis completed Athanasios Saratzis higher surgical training in Birmingham (West Midlands), Leicester, and London (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust), funded by the NIHR as a fellow and subsequently as a clinical lecturer; Athanasios Saratzis also completed a number of visiting/travel fellowships outside the UK as part of Athanasios Saratzis endovascular training in high volume cardiovascular centres, such as the Houston Methodist.
