Asim A. Sheikh is a practising Barrister, specialising in clinical negligence and all aspects of medical / healthcare law. He regularly represents, acts for and advises a large number of healthcare clients. He is also a CEDR Accredited Mediator. He graduated from the University of Limerick where he obtained B.A. in European Studies with Law and Spanish. He was a Teaching Assistant with the Department of Law, University of Limerick (1994-1997). He then undertook and completed an LL.M. thesis by research, the topic of which was "Human Genetics: The Ramifications for Law & Ethics". He continued his education at the King's Inn, Dublin and was called to the Bar in 1998.

He joined the Legal Medicine Unit, University College Dublin in 1997 and is currently part-time Assistant Professor in Legal Medicine, the Course Director and Co-ordinator of and lectures on the Graduate Diploma and MSc in Healthcare (Risk Management & Quality). He is also Director and co-ordinator of the Professional Certificate in Medico-legal Aspects of Healthcare. He lectured on the Legal & Ethical Aspects of Healthcare, MBA in Health Services Management, at the Michael Smurfit School of Business, University College Dublin. He is the organiser of Training Course and Courtroom skills for Medical Experts in UCD.
