Ashutosh Chilkoti PhD

Ashutosh Chilkoti is the Alan L. Kaganov Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Chair of the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Duke University. Chilkoti's research in biomolecular engineering and bio-interface science focuses on the development of new molecular tools and technologies that borrow from molecular biology, protein engineering, polymer chemistry, and surface science, which we then exploit for the development of applications that span the range from bioseparations, plasmonic biosensors, low-cost clinical diagnostics, and drug delivery.

His research group has pioneered the design and synthesis of genetically encoded stimulus-responsive elastin-like polypeptides and their fusions with peptides and proteins, with applications in protein purification and drug delivery. Dr. Chilkoti co-founded PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals in 2002 and served as a member of the company’s board of directors from 2002 to 2018.
