Ashok Puranik became a surgeon to serve humanity for his lifetime. In his 30 years of service with the Indian Army, he was deployed twice with the Armed Forces in projects for military trauma training since 1992. It is in the same 30 years that he also had the opportunity to complete his fellowship from the Alfred Hospital Melbourne and RACS in 2003-2005 in Trauma. His specialization area was Resuscitation, chest and abdominal injuries, as well as research involvement extending to other trauma-related areas like quality improvement and massive bleeding/resuscitation.
Ashok Puranik has also had the privilege of being an academic mentor and surgical innovator for his postgraduate students while primarily being a soldier's doctor. Coupled with his military experience, his tenure so far at AIIMS with extensive responsibilities administratively and clinically for the institutional trauma quality improvement program, and in education both at AFMC & AIIMS. he is constantly involved and invested in the development of a regionalized trauma system in India.
Ashok Puranik's special interests include acute care surgeries, trauma, and surgical critical care. Laparoscopic surgeries include laparoscopic inguinal, femoral incision, hernia repair, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and laparoscopic colorectal surgery. Dr. Ashok Puranik is an internationally acclaimed author, popular keynote speaker, futurist, and strategic business & technology advisor to governments and companies. He is a Director of Trauma and consultant General/GI/Trauma Surgeon at AIIMS Jodhpur.
