Ashlee (sommer) G. Hamel PharmD, BCPS

Ashlee received her doctorate of pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh and completed a PGY1 pharmacy practice post-doctoral residency at Sentara Healthcare. She obtained her board certification as a pharmacotherapy specialist in 2012 and is completing her master of health administration at Walden University next year. Ashlee was formerly the system coordinator of antimicrobial stewardship and was instrumental in the development and success of this program across inpatient, post-acute, and outpatient divisions within Sentara. She currently participates in a state-wide quality interest group and chairs a national subcommittee focusing on antimicrobial stewardship. Prior to this, she worked as a clinical pharmacy specialist in internal medicine.

She has experience leading numerous clinical initiatives within an integrated delivery network. Ashlee currently provides leadership of clinical pharmacy services, assists in system-wide formulary decisions and guides management of critical medication shortages. She has a strong interest in partnering with information technology leaders to advance clinical practice.
