Dr. Bhimaraj earned his medical degree from Gandhi Medical College in Hyderabad, India. He worked for the World bank on a Public health project on urban poverty and then attended a Master of Public Health program at The University of Kansas Medical center, Kansas City. He then completed his residency at Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia followed by a General Cardiology fellowship at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County. He then finished his sub-specialty training in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic. Dr. Bhimaraj is American Board certified in cardiovascular disease and advanced heart failure and transplantation.

He is a member of the Methodist DeBakey Heart and Vascular Center, Houston Methodist Hospital and is currently serving as the Interim Chief of the Division of heart failure and is also the Medical Director of the Advanced Heart Failure, Mechanical Assist Devices and Heart Transplant Program. His expertise spans the spectrum of heart failure from new onset disease to advanced heart failure. He is also a member of the J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center, Houston Methodist Hospital where he is the Medical Director of the mechanical hearts and heart transplant program. He is also the Co-director of the Heart Failure Disease Management service and oversees the quality aspects of care for general heart failure at the Houston Methodist hospital.

He is the co-director of the Heart failure translational research laboratory where he oversees his research on the role of endothelial cells in causing scarring in the heart and is actively researching the ability of the heart to heal and recover from heart failure.
