Arne Simon MD

Prof. Dr. Simon is a specialist in pediatrics and adolescent medicine, pediatric hematology and oncology, and a clinical infectiologist (diploma from the German Society for Pediatric Infectiology and additional training in infectiology).

After completing his training at the Center for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at the University Hospital in Bonn and then working as a specialist and senior physician in the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology there, Prof. Dr. Simon in November 2010 at the Clinic for Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the University Children's Clinic Homburg/Saar.

Prof. Dr. Since 2004, Simon has been a member of the Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the Robert Koch Institute, Berlin ( KRINKO ), appointed by the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Security. As head of the relevant working group, he coordinated the recommendation 'Prevention of nosocomial infections in neonatal intensive care patients with a birth weight below 1500 g'. In preparing the recommendation for 'infection prevention in immunocompromised patients'. he was significantly involved.

Prof. Dr. Simon coordinates the Antibiotic Stewardship working group of the DGPI together with Prof. Johannes Hübner (Munich). He heads the cross-sector pediatric-infectious Paedine Saar network (funded by the Saarland Ministry of Health, Social Affairs, and Family).

From 2006 to 2010 Prof. Dr. Simon is on the German Society for Hospital Hygiene board as a representative of the hygiene officers for doctors. Since 2008 he has been a member of the scientific editorial board of the journal Hygiene & Medizin.

In addition to his clinical work as a pediatric hematologist and oncologist, his scientific work focuses on the surveillance, prevention, and control of nosocomial infections in pediatrics and adolescent medicine. He is a co-initiator of the hygiene tips campaign for kids in the hospital. From 1997 to 2010 Prof. Dr. Simon worked as a hygiene officer at the Center for Pediatrics at the University Hospital in Bonn (trained by Prof. Dr. Exner, Institute for Hygiene and Public Health at the University Hospital in Bonn).
