Dr. Shalev is Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at New York University Langone Medical Center. Dr. Shalev earned his medical degree from the University of Montpellier in France and trained in psychiatry and psychotherapy in Tel Aviv University. He is the former Chair of the Department of Psychiatry at Hadassah, Director and founder of the Center for Traumatic Stress at Hadassah, Jerusalem, chair of the Israel Society for Biological Psychiatry and Editor and Founder of the Israel Journal of Psychotherapy. Dr. Shalev is internationally known for his work on Trauma and Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). He extensively studied disease-progression, biology, neuroimaging and treatment for PTSD. Dr. Shalev published more than 160 journal articles and book chapters and received distinguished international awards. Dr. Shalev funding support comes from US federal grants, European Community New Frontier Project, Israel’s Ministry of Health and private institutions. He is a fellow of the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ACNP) and the European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP); member of the Israel Psychiatric Association; the Israel Society for Biological Psychiatry (current chair) and the Israel Association of Psychotherapy.
