Dr Ari Manuel is a general respiratory consultant in Liverpool with a specialism in sleep disorders and ventilation. He is also a senior clinical lecturer at the University of Liverpool and an academic at the University of Sheffield.

He graduated from Imperial College with a BSc in Biochemistry and a degree in medicine. He completed his training in London and Oxford and undertook a DPhil at Oriel College in Oxford in Sleep Medicine as well as a diploma in higher education from the University of Oxford

He is a fellow of the higher education academy, the vice president of the international council of the American Association of Sleep Medicine (AASM) (2021 - 2024), and a council member of the British Sleep Society (BSS) and the Royal Society of Medicine (2019 - 2027)

He co-authored one of the highest referenced and viewed medical research papers in the Lancet journal in 2020 on the long-term complications of COVID-19 infection.
