Archer Martin MD

Archer K. Martin, M.D., is the Chair of the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology with a special interest in the perioperative management of lung transplantation. He completed a residency in Anesthesiology at Yale School of Medicine followed by a fellowship in Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology at Harvard Medical School / Massachusetts General Hospital. He has served as an invited Visiting Professor at University programs throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, focusing on a variety of areas within perioperative management of end-stage heart and lung disease as well as mechanical circulatory support. His clinical practice focuses on these same areas, and he leads the Division of Cardiovascular and Thoracic Anesthesiology in providing support to these diverse service lines at Mayo Clinic Florida.

He serves in leadership roles within the ASA, SCA, and ISHLT and co-founded two global educational networks that focus on the dissemination of high-quality education within cardiothoracic and transplantation medicine. He also serves as Co-Chair for the ISHLT Consensus Statement on the Perioperative Utilization of Extracorporeal Life Support in Lung Transplantation, leading a group of multidisciplinary colleagues from around the world to develop recommendations for best practices within this high-risk clinical area. He is board-certified by the ABA and NBE, and holds the academic rank of Professor at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
