Anu grew up in both Kathmandu, Nepal, and in Silver Spring, Maryland. She graduated with a BA in Biochemistry in 2006 from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. In 2012, she earned her PhD in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from Rice University in Houston, Texas. Her PhD research focused on understanding the regulation of innate immune cells such as monocytes and fibrocytes.
She did her postdoctoral training in muscle stem cell regeneration and in eosinophilic esophagitis at the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington, Connecticut. In 2014, she joined an inflammatory bowel disease laboratory as a research associate at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. There, she researched the crosstalk between intestinal inflammation and bone health. She is excited about her fellowship, and is happy to be back in a mountain country. She hopes to explore the national parks of Utah.
