Dr. Antonio Gangemi has a broad experience in minimally invasive and robotic general and bariatric surgery with a special focus on foregut surgery, hernia repair, and cholecystectomy as well as sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, and lap-band. Dr. Gangemi performs the majority of surgical procedures either robotically or laparoscopically using Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS).

Dr. Gangemi completed his general surgery residency at the Department of Surgery at UIC being one of the first general surgery residents in the United States to be trained directly on the robotic surgical system.

He was previously trained at the University of Padua in Italy where he holds active status and is a Board Certified General Surgeon. Prior to completing his residency in the United States, he pursued a 2 years fellowship in pancreatic cell transplantation for the cure of diabetes at the Division of Transplantation of UIC.

Dr. Gangemi joined the Division of General, Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at the University of Illinois at Chicago where he now holds the title of Assistant Professor of Surgery and Clinical Director of the Surgical Skills Laboratory.

Dr. Gangemi has published numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. He also presented his work at national and international meetings and has co-authored book chapters in surgical textbooks.
