Antonio Cannata MD

Dr. Cannata is currently a specialist and research associate in the Heart Failure department at the King’s College Hospital – King’s College London. He trained in Italy, under the lead of Prof Gianfranco Sinagra and then moved to London under the lead of Prof Theresa McDonagh. He is also visiting Scientist at the Cardiovascular Department of the University of Trieste. Dr Cannata has a genuine interest in Heart failure and specifically in Cardiomyopathies. During the time spent in Trieste, Italy, he was part of one of the largest monocentric registries for Cardiomyopathies, enrolling more than 1400 patients with Dilated Cardiomyopathy, 300 patients with Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and 150 patients with Myocarditis. Dr Cannata independently carried out several research projects on the Dilated Cardiomyopathy characterising its natural history and contemporary survival trends, the prognostic impact of sex and the importance of proper arrhythmic risk stratification regardless the degree of dysfunction. Dr Cannata is a passionate researcher, enthusiastic and highly motivated. Author, or co-author, of more than 40 peer-reviewed papers published on international journals, Co-Editor of a book on Infective Endocarditis (ISBN 978-88-490-0566-0) and author of several chapters in books on Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Myocarditis and Chest pain. He also acts as a reviewer for several highly impacted journals such as: European Heart Journal, European Journal of Heart Failure, International Journal of Cardiology and Science, and serves as associate editor of PLOS One and BMC cardiovascular disorders.
