Tony Figaji is a Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Cape Town and works at Groote Schuur Hospital and Red Cross Children's Hospital, where he is also Head of Paediatric Neurosurgery. He is the National Research Foundation SARChI Chair of Clinical Neurosciences and scientific chair of the International Society for Pediatric Neurosurgery and of the Society of Neurosurgeons of South Africa. He is a founder member of GlobalNeuro, an organisation formed to teach neurotrauma across the world, prior to which he was also director of AONeuro Courses in Davos. His research centres on acute brain injury, in particular on the use of multimodal methods to improve clinical decisions, and the differences between adult and paediatric brain injury. His surgical interests are in the brain and spinal cord tumours, for which is he also director of the institutional fellowship in Intraoperative Neurophysiology.
