Anne Marie Oudesluys-Murphy was born in Cork (Ireland). She studied medicine from 1966 to 1972 at The University College Cork of the National University of Ireland. After a year of working as a medical assistant in Cork, she started 1973 pediatrics in London. In 1975 she moved to the Netherlands. She initially worked as a medical examiner in Amsterdam. In January 1977 she started the Dutch pediatric training in the Zuiderziekenhuis in Rotterdam under Dr. J. Engelhardt and later Prof. Dr. CJ de Groot. After completing her training in 1980, she joined the pediatrics staff.
In addition to her clinical work, Oudesluys-Murphy started a Ph.D. research in her spare time. In May 1990, she obtained her doctorate with the thesis The human umbilical cord and its Separation with Professor de Groot at the University of Amsterdam. After several years as a deputy at the Department of Pediatrics in the Zuiderziekenhuis, she became a trainer in 1999. Management and organization were also part of her tasks within the hospital. These tasks only increased with the merger of the Zuiderziekenhuis and the St. Clara Hospital and the formation of the Medisch Centrum Rijnmond-Zuid.
Over the years, Oudesluys-Murphy has held many positions on boards and committees within and outside the hospital, including those of the Dutch Pediatric Association, the medical nursery De Kleine Plantage, the Advisory Council of UNICEF / WHO Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative, Stichting Zorg for Breastfeeding, National Working Group Neonatal Hearing Screening, Trainers Pediatrics in General Hospitals. As a professor, she will continue her research in the areas of congenital hearing impairment in children, children with multiple disabilities, and breastfeeding.
