Dr. Bang was at ViaCyte Inc. (formerly Novocell Inc.), since 2005, where as Director of Stem Cell Research she oversaw a group of scientists working to develop human embryonic stem cells as a replenishable source of pancreatic cells for the treatment of diabetes. Her work at ViaCyte focused on the development of directed differentiation protocols and technologies to manufacture cells at scale, as well as characterization of cell product composition and identification of cell sorting reagents and methods to enrich target cell populations. Dr. Bang has over 20 years of experience in the fields of molecular and developmental biology, with an emphasis on neural development. She received her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of California in San Diego, and was a post-doctoral fellow and a Senior Research Scientist in the Neurobiology Laboratory at The Salk Institute for Biological Studies, in La Jolla, CA.
