Anna Skold, MD, has been appointed as our first Physician Lead for Medical Ethics. In this role, she will serve as Kaiser Permanente of Georgia’s resource and representative on issues related to medical ethics. The creation of this role will help develop and recognize our Regional ethics activities and strengthen our involvement with the national ethics workgroup.
Dr. Skold will help represent our interests at the national level as part of KP’s Inter-Regional Medical Ethics Committee (IRMEC), which encourages pursuit of health for patients in a manner that honors biomedical, personal, social, and spiritual values. Locally, she is available to provide advice, education and guidance on medical ethics topics and to help clinicians address patient and organizational cases and issues.
She will also review and create local and national policies that address issues of medical-ethical relevance and importance. We also envision her playing a key role with MAA, MAG, and other legislative and policy bodies, to support delivery of high quality ethical care to all members of our community.
Dr. Skold joined TSPMG in 2012 and is part of our Palliative Care team. Her experience will be especially valuable as she partners with other departments and initiatives to develop programs that document and respect individual’s choices around end of life care and more comprehensive advance care planning.
