Anna-Katerina Hadjantonakis is a Member of the Sloan Kettering Institute, of the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and a Professor at Cornell University, New York. She received a BSc in Biochemistry in 1990, and PhD in Molecular Genetics in 1995, from Imperial College, London. From 1996 to 2003 she undertook postdoctoral work at the Samuel Lunenfeld Research Institute, Toronto, and Columbia University, New York. The overarching goal of her research interests is to decipher mechanisms of cell fate specification and tissue morphogenesis. These interests are being addressed in the context of the early mammalian embryo: in determining how: (1) the founder cells of the embryo and extra-embryonic tissues arise in the blastocyst, and (2) how the definitive germ layers form at gastrulation.
