Ann L. Daugherty MSc

Ann L. Daugherty, PhD, is currently a Senior Manager in the Drug Delivery department at Genentech. She identifies promising external ocular delivery technologies for application to Genentech’s ophthalmic pipeline of protein drugs, setting up feasibility study agreements as well as managing relationships and projects with technology partners. A biopharmaceutical scientist with training and experience in pharmacokinetics and biocompatibility, Dr Daugherty’s research interests are in understanding tissue responses to biomaterials used as drug delivery matrices, especially in the vitreal chamber of the eye.

In addition to studying ocular delivery for the past seven years, Ann has studied alternative routes of administration for protein drugs such as oral, pulmonary, nasal and even transdermal delivery. Prior to joining Genentech, she worked at Alza, the first drug delivery company working on delivery systems with controlled delivery of small molecules given orally or by transdermal patches.
