Angela Lombardi is a Professor of Inorganic and Bioinorganic Chemistry at the University of Naples Federico II. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Sciences from the University of Naples Federico II. The research activity of Angela Lombardi is focused on peptide and protein chemistry, mainly covering the fields of design, synthesis, structural and functional characterization of bioactive peptides, and metalloprotein mimetics. The development of “molecular tools” able to freeze linear and cyclic peptides in a well-defined three-dimensional structure, represents one of her early research topics. These studies have been basic for the design of new molecules capable of reproducing the chemical, structural and catalytic properties of several natural systems. They contributed to a better understanding of the structural requirements for function in biological macromolecules and also allowed the development of new, pharmacologically interesting products (tachykinin antagonists, thrombin inhibitors, immune-suppressor agents, calmodulin mimetics).
