Angela undertook her doctoral work with Professor Brian Spratt and received her DPhil from the University of Oxford in 2004. Simultaneously she was also a senior research fellow in the departments of Clinical Microbiology and Public Health/Primary Care in Oxford from 2001-2005, where she worked on paediatric clinical studies related to understanding common infections such as conjunctivitis, whooping cough and influenza.
After that she was an infectious disease lecturer in the Department of Zoology for three years before taking up a Wellcome Trust research fellowship for six years (including two maternity leave periods). She and her research group moved to the Nuffield Department of Medicine in 2013, where she is now an Associate Professor at Oxford.
