Aneesh Bhim Singhal MD

Dr. Aneesh B. Singhal is a Board Certified Neurologist, Vascular Neurologist, Neurosonologist, and Chair of Quality and Safety for the Departmet of Neurology. Dr. Singhal's key research interests are in stroke neuroprotection, stroke neuroimaging, and "uncommon causes of stroke' including reversible cerebral vasoconstriction syndrome (RCVS) and cerebral vasculitis.

Dr. Singhal has conducted previous and ongoing studies in both animals and humans to investigate the therapeutic potential of Normobaric oxygen therapy (NBO) as a strategy that can extend the 3-hour time window for tissue plasminogen activator (tPA), which is the only FDA-approved acute stroke treatment. He is involved in several NIH funded studies aimed at developing new CT and MR imaging techniques for ischemic stroke and migraine. Additionally he conducts prospective and retrospective analytical studies aimed at understanding stroke mechanisms and correlating stroke neuroimaging with etiology. In addition to his academic responsibilities, he serves as a grant reviewer for the NIH and other scientific organizations and conducts journal manuscript reviews.

Dr. Singhal, born in Mumbai, India, brings a key strength to the department. His interest in promoting stroke care at the international level, in addition to his strong relationship with key investigators in India has proved to be successful in breaking the international barrier and standardizing stroke management. He is a key player in organizations such as the 'Association of Indian Neurologists in America', the World Foundation of Neurology', the 'Heal Foundation' (India), and serves as International Advisor to the Indian Stroke Association.
