Andrew D.R. Surtees completed his Ph.D. at the University of Birmingham on the cognitive processes implicated in social and spatial perspective-taking. He was awarded a Research Fellowship by Marie Curie Actions for the European Commission and Fonds de la Recherche Scientifique, which he undertook at Université catholique de Louvain. During this time, he extended his work on the cognitive and neural processes involved in perspective-taking, employing EEG and fMRI. Further to this, he completed training as a Clinical Psychologist. He combines being a lecturer at Birmingham, with working as a Clinical Psychologist for Birmingham Children’s Hospital; in this role, he specializes in assessing autism in children and young adults with comorbid mental health problems.
