Andrew Artz, M.D., M.S., has spent decades tending to the special needs of older people battling leukemia and blood diseases. An acknowledged leader in the field, he has created unique, multidisciplinary programs to put his senior patients in the best possible condition before they receive lifesaving stem cell transplants. He also has led research to better understand and treat anemia in older persons.

Dr. Artz received his medical degree in his home state at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Medicine residency was completed at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C., followed by a hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Chicago then six months of transplant training as a visiting physician at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle. He was an attending hematologist and clinical director of the transplant program at the University of Chicago before moving to the City of Hope.
