Dr. Andrew Warfield Hoel is a board-certified vascular surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Hoel’s clinical practice encompasses open and endovascular treatment of aortic, visceral, carotid, and lower extremity arterial disease. He has additional clinical training and expertise in the management of aortic aneurysms and aortic dissections. Dr. Hoel has a practice philosophy that is based on active collaboration with patients to find the best treatment strategy for a patient’s vascular problem, goals, and values. He is committed to fostering innovative and exceptional care for all Northwestern patients.

Dr. Hoel has an active research enterprise focused on technology innovation, reducing procedure risk, and optimizing treatment strategies for patients with vascular disease. He is actively involved in the research and quality improvement endeavors of the Society for Vascular Surgery Vascular Quality Initiative both at the national and regional levels. He is the site principal investigator of multiple clinical trials and education studies focused on the minimally-invasive treatment of vascular disease and on patient-physician communication. He has published and presented his research widely and has mentored multiple trainees through original investigations.

At Northwestern, Dr. Hoel is the Director of Outcomes and Quality Improvement for the Division of Vascular Surgery, and a mentor to Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine’s research trainees as part of an NHLBI-funded T32 grant. He is a moderator for the Division of Vascular Surgery Quality Improvement Conference, Aortic Case Planning Conference, Aortic Dissection Meeting, and Vascular Case Planning Conference.

Dr. Hoel attended Mayo Medical School and completed a residency in general surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital. He joined Northwestern after completing a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.
