Andrew Goodearl PhD

Andy Goodearl Ph.D. is Senior Director, Biologics Drug Biology at AbbVie where he has been a leader in therapeutic biologics discovery for 18 years and previous to that for 7 years at Millennium Pharmaceuticals.

With expertise in many aspects of biologics drug discovery and early development for immunology, oncology, and neuroscience indications, Dr. Goodearl’s primary research interests are in the area of bi-specific biologics therapeutics, the biodistribution of biologic therapeutics, and effecting local activity of biologic therapeutics in disease tissues through epitope targeting or local activation of biologic pro-drugs. This includes a focus on the evaluation of DVD-Ig bi-specifics targeting blood-brain barrier receptors to mediate elevated brain uptake of therapeutics for neurodegenerative disease and also an investigation of disease tissue-specific splice variant targeting epitopes for the delivery of antagonist biologic payloads and cytokines for fibrotic and autoimmune indications.

Dr. Goodearl gained his Ph.D. as a protein biochemist at the University of Birmingham UK followed by postdoctoral training at Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, London, and Neuroscience Department, Harvard Medical School. Scientific accomplishments are documented in over 20 peer-reviewed publications and 15+ patents
