Andrew Demidowich, M.D., leads Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center's Endocrine and Inpatient Diabetes Management Service, a specialized clinical consultation program designed to promote better glycemic control in hospitalized patients. Dr. Demidowich does not have an outpatient clinic. Dr. Demidowich's research interests include diabetes, obesity, and improving the delivery of care in the inpatient setting.
Dr. Demidowich is very interested in the interplay between inflammation and metabolic health. To this end, he has obtained several NIH grants to study colchicine's effects on obesity and metabolic syndrome. His studies have demonstrated that colchicine suppresses obesity-induced inflammation, reduces insulin resistance, and may improve certain vascular-related markers.
Additionally, Dr. Demidowich is passionate about examining and improving the delivery of care to patients with diabetes in the inpatient setting. He has published extensively on this topic and has several ongoing studies.
