Dr. Andrew Serazin, Senior Program Officer in Global Health Discovery at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and our partner in a joint crowdsourcing event, discusses how cross-disciplinary approaches and web and mobile-enabled technologies have the potential to bring game-changing partnerships and impacts in the field of maternal and child health. .A Goldwater Scholar and the recipient of two National Science Foundation fellowships, Serazin did extensive research on malaria mosquito genomics during his studies at Notre Dame.His work on malaria-carrying mosquitoes was published in the scholarly journal Science, where he was the youngest lead author in the history of the journal.He also was a delegate to a United Nations summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, on sustainable development, focusing on links among poor health, environmental destruction and poverty."Malaria infects 500 million people in the world," he said.
