Andrei I. Holodny, MD, is the founding President of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR). This is an important scientific endeavor for the ASNR to embrace. Dr. Holodny has been one of the prime movers in the creation of this society and it is fitting that he is its first president. He is a graduate of Columbia College and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). Following an internship in pathology at New York Hospital Cornell, Dr. Holodny was a resident and chief resident in radiology at New York University. He completed his neuroradiology fellowship at New York University and was a fellow in experimental radiology at The National Hospital, Rikshospital in Oslo Norway. He started his academic career at UMDNJ and rose to the rank of associate professor. In 2001, Dr. Holodny moved to Memorial Sloan-Kettering where he is an associate attending radiologist and Director of the Functional MR Imaging Laboratory.

Dr. Holodny is a member of the Editorial Board of the American Journal of Neuroradiology and has served on the study section at the National Institutes of Health. He is the author of almost 50 publications and 11 chapters. He has a long-standing interest in functional MR imaging, which was kindled by another neuroradiologist, Dr. Joseph Maldjian. Dr. Holodny wishes to encourage and facilitate the introduction of functional neuroradiology into clinical neuroradiological practice. He would like to encourage the training of neuroradiologists in functional imaging and foster research in this important field. With his leadership and that of others, functional imaging will flourish in neuroradiology.
