Dr. Andreas Toepfer, MD, PhD, trained as a paramedic at Red Cross Bavaria/Germany from 1994-1996, started medical school in 1996 at Ludwigs Maximilians University of Munich, Germany, and finished his studies at Technical University of Munich, Germany in 2002. His professional training included stays abroad in the US (Stanford & University of San Francisco) as a visiting student/intern and at Royal Melbourne University, Australia, and Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Capetown, South Africa as a final year medical student.

His training in general orthopedics commenced in 2002. He soon focused on tumor orthopedics under the guidance of renowned Professor Dr. Reiner Gradinger at Technical University Hospital Klinikum Rechts der Isar Munich, Germany. Patients from all over the world sought the expertise of his professor in the treatment of benign and malignant musculoskeletal tumors. The daily management of these rare diseases inside and outside the operation theatre greatly helped Dr.Toepfer to gain the necessary experience and technical skills in treating his own patients.

Dr.Toepfer’s scientific work soon concentrated on tumor orthopedics and foot and ankle surgery. In 2007 he finished his doctoral thesis on Distal Femoral Replacement in tumor cases and revision arthroplasty patients. Until today, Dr.Toepfer has published and co-authored more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters, has given more than 40 scientific presentations at international congresses, and more than 125 presentations at instructional courses for medical experts, the vast majority on foot and ankle surgery and tumor orthopedics.

His studies and presentations aim to improve the understanding and knowledge of foot and ankle tumors.

He finished his orthopedic specialty training in 2008 when he was board certified as an orthopedic surgeon.
