Prof. Andreas Reif studied Medicine in Wurzburg and received his training in psychiatry at the University Hospital Wurzburg, where he later on became Vice Chair before he moved to Frankfurt am Main to become Head of the Department in 2014. There, he is responsible for an academic tertiary care center featuring almost 200 inpatients and a large outpatient service covering all fields of psychiatry.
His main clinical interests are mood disorders, with a focus on therapy-resistant depression, suicide prevention, and bipolar disorder, as well as adult ADHD. He is engaged in public outreach and communal prevention programs based on evidence-based practices.
Scientific interests are the biological underpinnings of mental disorders and the precision medicine approach: which patient benefits the most from which treatment, guided by objective markers. His scientific work encompasses more than 500 peer-reviewed papers, published in leading journals of the field including e.g. Lancet or Molecular Psychiatry. Andreas Reif is a member of the Executive Boards of leading learned societies such as ECNP and DGPPN and is actively engaged in several research networks, e.g. IMpACT on adult ADHD. He receives funding from the DFG, BMBF, and the European Commission. He is a member of the Steering Committee of the German Treatment Guidelines for Depression and Suicidal Behavior, respectively, and has been recognized as a Top Physician for several areas in the Focus ranking.
